Volunteers Needed!

If your neighbor’s house caught fire, wouldn’t you want to do more than watch? Of course you would. Join Mont Clare Fire Company and become a volunteer firefighter. To become a volunteer firefighter, you’ll need more than just a desire to help people. You’ll need courage, dedication, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn new skills and face new challenges.
Becoming a member of the Mont Clare Fire Company is easy. The process involves submitting a completed membership application, successful completion of a background check and interview with the membership committee. Once all of this is done, you would need to come to the next business meeting where a vote will be taken to accept your application for membership.
New members without any prior firefighting experience will need to complete basic firefighting training classes. All required training classes are made available at no cost to members and have varying availability to accommodate most people’s schedules. All firefighters receive basic firefighting training by certified instructors at local accredited training facilities. Additional training is offered in advanced firefighting, vehicle rescues, and pump operation and in other specialized areas that further enhance our skill set. Besides attending training offered at the fire school and responding to emergency calls, members meet each Monday evening for training drills.
Once a member has attained certain minimum levels of training, they are then able to participate in fire suppression and rescue operations. After additional training, members become apparatus drivers and operators. There are many opportunities for members to participate in various fire company activities and committees such as fire prevention and education, fund raising and training. There are over ten different committees that a member can participate in. Members may also have many opportunities to serve the fire company in many administrative and officer positions. Volunteer members of the Mont Clare Fire Company are expected to participate on a regular basis within the limits of their personal schedules.

Active Firefighter: Those members of the fire company who have completed the required training and are approved to respond to emergency incidents. These members are also able to vote in the democratic process of running the fire company.

Junior Firefighter: Those members 16 and 17 years of age. Junior Firefighters have stringent limitations on the degree of participation in emergency incidents and the times of day they may respond. These members are not able to vote in the democratic process of running the fire company. Once a Junior Firefighter reaches the age of 18 then they are moved to Active Firefighter status and are then able to vote on fire company issues and in elections.

Fire Police: Fire Police are highly trained members of the fire company who respond directly to the incident scene to provide traffic and crowd control. The Fire Police play an important role in the operational safety of an incident scene, providing protection to both our firefighters and you. Because of their expertise and training they are sometimes asked to respond to police incidents to also help with traffic and crowd control. As with our firefighters, all of the Fire Police are volunteers also. These members are also able to vote in the democratic process of running the fire company.

Support Staff: These are the people who do not necessarily want to respond to emergencies but want to participate in the Fire Company. We operate as a business and always need help with the fire station upkeep, data entry of reports, and fund-raising events. These members are just as much a part of the Fire Company family as everyone else.

So now you are wondering how to get involved?
